I am sure you've had an uneventful 2020 so far, right? Nothing happened at all. 😅
I'm kidding of course. This year has probably been one of struggle for most of us - if not a literal struggle with disease, employment and finances, then an emotional and mental roller-coaster of ups and downs.
In Babylon, and everywhere in New York, Local Events slowed to a standstill as people stopped scheduling and attending them to follow social distancing guidelines due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I turned the I Love Babylon Events group on Facebook into I Love Babylon Updates and shifted our podcast
to a daily Corona-cast as we reported the daily COVID numbers for months, informing residents of the virus spread on a hyper-local level, so
we could follow along and do something in our daily lives about it.
Now, for the last couple months here in New York, including in the Town of Babylon, we've had a very low COVID transmission rate and Events are back on the Local Events calendar.
I'm going to be honest: while I missed our Local Events and places, I felt a responsibility to be careful not to promote gatherings and potentially get someone sick. However, it now looks as though people are continuing to be careful, keeping their distance and wearing masks, and if we can keep that up, then maybe we won't have the same kind of spread we are seeing across the rest of the
country. I am proud of New Yorkers for doing the work, and I am hopeful our Town's residents are continuing to be mindful of the potential dangers of COVID-19.
🆕 What's New:
We added a new category due to the changing times: Online Events now covers the Events that are on Zoom or Facebook Live or otherwise online.
On my new website LongIslandsGreatest.com you can support Local Businesses as we promote them there. They can simply join for Free or choose one of our paid plans to get simple Digital Marketing done for them
📲 What's Coming: Events and Restaurant Specials Texts
We are putting together a way to help Local Businesses, especially Restaurants, that have been affected by COVID-19 with our very own SMS Text messaging list. Here's how that will work: you will join the I Love Babylon SMS list by texting JOIN to us, then you'll get 1-3 texts a week telling you which Restaurants and other Local Businesses have Specials and Deals at that time. If you want to, you may
also join a list for each individual SMS list of your favorite Restaurants or businesses. That's coming before the end of August.
So Here We GO!
- Concerts are ON. Music is Life on Long Island and everywhere!
- The Beaches, even though some have either been population restricted, or occasionally closed for bacterium or shark sightings, are OPEN (so please be careful) and as a result...
- The Town of Babylon's Beach Blast is scheduled for this Saturday.
- Farmer's Markets have figured out how to safely conduct business during COVID-19 and a NEW one, the American Venice Market
has opened in Lindenhurst on Saturdays.
- Local Businesses and Restaurants have begun to get creative with their Events too - I was at a socially-distanced Networking Event last week with Long Island Networkers.
